    Default Terrova questions

I just bought a used boat with a Terrova and have a few questions. It’s the 12v 55# Model with the iPilot link, and US2 transducer built in. I previously had a Power Drive V2with an add on iPilot module.

    - I was told to always run the depth adjustment collar down against the motor when the TM is stored. This doesn’t make any sense to me, I never did it on the Power Drive.

    - Do I have to leave the foot pedal connected? I’d prefer to put it on the shelf and use the remote 100% of the time.

    - I’ve heard of running 2 transducers on the sameness Fish Finder, via a switch. I have an unidentified switch on the boat, but I would think the transducers would require more than a simple electrical switch???

    - the boat also has a Humminbird 698 side image KVD unit, with an outdated Lakemaster chip. Most of the places I fish are not on any of the mapping chips, most but not all. Is the link feature worthwhile? I would not have paid any extra for it, but since I’ve got it I may as well use it if it’s any good.

    Thanks

You would need to trace the cables attaches to the "unidentified" switch and see if they go to xducers - to determine if it is indeed the HB TS3 Switch ...

The HB TS3 Switch is simply a Y cable with a 12v relay at the "Y" (and wires from the relay to 12v power thru a toggle switch for activating the relay) ...

Someone else will have to answer your Terrova questions ...

on the terrova, don't know about moving the depth collar, I never move mine, on the foot pedal, you can take it off I carry mine in a compartment just in case a battery in the remote goes dead and I forget to take a replacement.

It makes no sense to me either, I've had mine on 2 boats both deep V and they both required I used the collar against the motor to get deep enough so I have never adjusted it for storage. Oneida Eagle (c.c member) added a gimbal mount on his when in storage that goes from the TM head to the gunnel of his boat to remove any bumping or jarring while he drives bumpy roads.

As far as the foot control, mine has always been stored in a boat compartment and never been used, I have two handheld remotes.

I'll be interested to see if any one has input on the collar.

The idea on sliding the collar down and locking it when motor is in the stowed position is to keep it from deploying if stowed. I do not do that on mine as i have a device to strap mine down where it cannot deploy. A friend of mine was on plane with his moto stowed....collar not down and nothing fastening the motor in place...hit a wave motor jarred loose and deployed and it ripped the motor off of the boat....its on the bottom of Sardis lake now.

I have a G1 Terrova 12v 55# with IP, and leave the foot pedal connected by choice, you can leave it attached or attach it as needed, operation won't be affected. I do not adjust the depth collar and have not since I got the TM. I use a heavy duty velcro strap with carbiner/snap hook on one end from homedepot to hold the TM down while trailering the boat. The carbiner attaches to a D ring on the bow wall and keeps the TM from bouncing too much or deploying.

I seldom use the velcro strap while on the water but I'm not a speed demon running WOT. I do run on plane just not WOT. Never had any issues

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I use a RAM trolling motor attachment on my gunnel to keep the TM from bouncing while under way. A longer shaft like mine (60") will bounce bad if not secured. I run my collar up against the head 99% of the time.

Sounds like I need to rig some kind of hold down strap, thanks. This Terrova has a 54" shaft, longer than needed for this boat.

I read in the owners manual that the terrova won't run down the battery when stowed (and turned off) like the powerdrive with ipilot will. I had that little detail bite me once.

They still reccomend you unplug them before you plug up your battery charger tho.
