    Default Tech Question

I just bought a pre-owned boat last week. I'm having a problem with the trailer lighting. Tailights don't work. Brakelights, turn signals, and backup lights work fine. I've checked the plug from the truck and it checks fine.

    Any ideas? Anyone? HELP!!!!!!

    Thanks

on our trailer (which was used also) if anybody back up the trailer with the lights still plugged in, the brake lights blow out. none of the other lights though, which is why i mentioned it.

Been down that road before. Check the power at the trailer light itself with a tester. The bulbs most likely have tw filaments in the bulb- maybe one of the two is burned out and the other filament for the brake and turn light is still intact. Check for corrosion in the socket and that the bulb is inserted correctly on the two pegs in the socket. Check the continuity of the wire to the light as well, of course. Check the ground at the light/trailer connection. Good luck and let us know what fixes it.

I was having a problem with blown bulbs so I upgraded to the led sealed lights and don't have any more problems, there super bright and can be see even in bright sun light. they are well worth their price. Got them at Bass Pro.

Some model trucks including mine have separate fuses for trailers. My truck will still have all the lights work however something on the trailer will not.
Check the output on your plug at the back of the truck to first eliminate that.

I have had to add a ground wire in the past also to make sure I have a good ground.

Check the fuse I had problems with my tail lights and there was a fuse box under my hood. I would also check the ground most of the time it seems like that can also be the problem. Good luck.

I had a similar problem once...and it was a broken wire between the
connector and the lights. The trailer lights have their own wire on
most set-up...and it takes a bit of work to trace down the short or
    the break. Good Luck!
