Has anyone used a "PWM" speed control unit to change a 5 speed trollmotor to a variable speed. Is the "PWM" unit simllar to the digital maximizer on variable speed M/K motors. If so: pros and cons!!!!!

You can use the minn kota power drive module to do this if u can find one cheap enough. It is waterproof and works, but u gotta build a box to put the stuff in and heat sink the module. You have to buy a 1K linear taper waterproof potentiometer and a foot switch to turn off/on. I wouldn't use the existing TM foot pedal switch, but u could.

Thanks for the replys, Would the motor (windings, ect.) be the same for both a factory 5 speed and a variable speed? Parts list indicates for a 5 speed ( 12v 3.25 5sp) and a variable (12v 3.25 variable speed) The motors I have only have two wires (b & r) going down the shaft so it would seem that all speed control is done in the steering head????
Two MK Maximizers on eBay right now.
And with that, I'll see you on the water...
