I welded a 1/2" socket onto a piece of 3/4" flat steel stock and keep one at each end of the boat for adjustments. I also put knobs on all of mine. You either use a tool, knobs or bend them. Your choice. They are made to be tight, not slip.
has anyone come up with a way to make the hi-teks slip a little easier to make fine adjustments? and not referring to knobs, etc.

Best way I've found was to sell em and buy spyder locks...
There is no good fix we found

put a lock washer on each bolt to help hold tension while its still al little loose to adjust it and buy a cheap dog bone wrench and keep it in the boat. Or find star grip knobs to fit the bolt head.
Innovative Components ANH2-HEX5S2- 1.38" Snap Lock Star knob hex hole to accept 5/16" nuts and bolts, black pp (Pack of 10): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
I think this is it.

I put these on my Hi-Tek holders & don't have a bit of trouble changing rod tip height :
McMaster-Carr
I use a small socket wrench to screw down the T-bar to the base & adjust the top bar position to suit me.
... cp
I fastened a nylon one hole strap with a snap on the front set and rear set. Clip the wrench with the snap on the box end and a velcro strap around it to keep it from flopping and me losing the wrench!
i like everything about my hi-teks except having to loosen bolts to make an adjustment to a rod tip, up or down. some of the steel holders will move enough to allow you to do that without loosening a bolt, yet still hold enough to fish. tried a little lithium grease which helped, but still requires the wrench. just checking around for ideas..... thanks..

Hi teks get my vote great price too
I had a wrench cut on a laser that fits them and keep it tied to the holder
