Not sure of it being a bass. Do bass even bite hunks off things? I thought they swallowed their food whole?
Man I've seen fish with big chunk missing. It always amazes me they can live through.
Could have been Nessie, maybe got tired of the cold waters in the highlands of Scotland and decided to move to TX where the water is a bit warmer. Plus everyone knows crappie is the best eating

What ever bit it, it was a long time ago. I am guessing it was when the fish was very small and this is just how it grew. Turtle or toothy fish would be my bet. His name is Lucky!
