Blacks are much more structure oriented. Whites are more likely to suspend and roam open water.
Was wondering how you guys would go about targeting blacks over just fishing for any crappie that would bite. My home lake has both however the blacks are bigger fish. Due to all our rain I have only got to fish it once so I haven't been able to try much. Curious how they differed from whites pre during and post spawn. Do they prefer different banks or different types of cover or structure when holdin or suspended? Deeper or shallower water? Different areas of lakes or tributaries. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Blacks prefer clearer water and are more typically found in river systems. Whites prefer more turbid/stained water. Blacks eat insects for a good portion of their lives, where the whites switch to baitfish as soon as something comes by that will fit in their mouth.
I find the blacks are a little shallower this time of year, and like to eat bugs a lot more than minnows, at least around here.
