Hey OUTDOORSUP. I modified my jon boat without any books or videos or anything. I just decided what I wanted to do and figured it out as I went along. It takes a lot of work and a lot of thought but it is worth it! My boat is a Lowe Roughneck 1652 and these are the modifications that I made.
Installed treated plywood floor over ribs.
Covered ribs on the sides with treated plywood.
Welded aluminum plate on back deck as support for pedestal and seat.
Installed carpet on plywood floors, front and rear decks and on plywood covering ribs on sides.
Installed base, pedestal and seat on front and rear decks.
Built livewell which is aerated and filled via pump.
Installed bilge pump.
Installed trolling motor, two batteries, navigation lights, power outlets, two Humminbird graphs, a fuse block and a ground block.
Built rod holders on sides to store up to eight rods.
Built and installed eight aluminum blocks to mount rod holders to and made extensions to raise the rod holders.
Johnson 9.9 upgraded.
Installed cleats to tie off boat.
After all this was done the boat performs great. Very comfortable to fish out of. With a little creativity and some hard work you should be able to set up your boat as you want it.
Hey, I had no idea what I was doing and if I can do it anybody can.
To make life enjoyable, you must have crappie days.
