With the cold windy forcast for weekend, I met a couple fishing friends after work Thursday at one of our tidal creek spots. It had just finished the rain showers and air temp was 70F. When we arrived the wind was directly from the south and against the tide. Despite tough conditions, we landed some crappie mostly smalls with a couple handfuls of bass up to 3 1/2 pounds. Frogs are sounding which is a good sign. Wheat fields are greening up. Saw more gizzard shad too.
This season like most others has a lot of false starts before the water stabilizes and the fast action starts up. It's wierd a few weeks back I saw the spawn coming early then the bottom dropped out of the weather and the water cooled back down. I'm actually surprised your catching them shallow. Other than the one big one that I caught shallow a couple of weeks ago they have all been very deep. Not bottom hugging but still suspended 8 feet down in 12 foot water.
