try live bait, just outside of the light. They are more likely to hit your bait outside of the light.
My .02 cents, anyone else.
2nd time this has happened...been fishing with a floating light and after awhile crappie will come up to it and just swim and gulp at the algae stuff. I will put everything I have in front of them and etc...no bites! What is going on? Thanks!

Yeah, thought of this. Was hitting them with all kinds of jigs and minnows. Right under the light and way outside of the light my buddy and I were try'n. Still no bites!Originally Posted by camofish
Fish a minnow weightless. No splitshot at all. Use a bobber if you want. Set it 3 ft from the bait and just let the minnow swim free. It'll drive the crappie crazy when he gets tired and starts to slowly sink. Free tip- no charge :D
I agree w/ camo. Our best success comes shallower just outside the light and a little deeper directly in the light. Just what works for us.

The only time I use minnows is in the summer at night and I fish a 3 way swivel with a minnow on a drop about 6"-12" long and 18" below that I have a 1/4 oz. jig. Sometimes it's better in the light and sometime it is better just outside the light.
I use a green light about 2" Dia. X 30" long and 1" or so under the water.
I agree with chaunc on the weightless minnow, works great. We also use glow in the dark micro teardrops tipped with spikes or waxworms. When using this method we use 10 - 12 foot noodle rods and just dabble the rig just outside the light as if were a daphnia or copepod coming toward the light.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D
