Companionable silence

Great story
Some days on the water are just pretty humbling. We were targeting bream today and had the arsenal of grizzly jigs, pop-eyes, wax worms, and nibbles (just in case). We caught very few, but on the bright side, there's always a critter to make you laugh, or inspire awe and there's never a lack of scenery perfect for photos.
Right off the bat this morning, a little yellow canary was being really nosy. He landed on one of Paul's fishing poles and sat there looking at us until I turned to get my phone to take a pic. He flew off, but returned a short time later. He lit on a nearby cypress, then on Paul's pole again, then on the trolling motor mount and then . . . . right on the deck to steal a wax worm. I was ready for him this time!
The snakes were out in full force today and we saw at least 6 or 7. No, I didn't stop to take any of their pictures. I was just proud that none of them tried to get in the boat with us.
This heron looked like a statue
We fished the south end early this morning and only picked up a couple, so we decided to load up and try further north. Didn't do very well up there either but it sure was pretty. An eagle did a fly by over our heads, which is always an awesome sight, but it was especially so today.
The bugs were after Paul all day. He must've smelled real sweet or something, cause they didn't bother me too much until the very end. I don't know if it was the bug spray or something else in the air, but he started sneezing like crazy and couldn't hardly breathe, so we decided to call it done. Our little boat is tiller steer and while I do very well with the Ranger, this little boat gives me a fit. I needed to practice so I chauffeured Paul back to the ramp and practiced my steering. Did pretty good til I got cocky, sped up a little and then hit a big stump. Dang motor kicked up and I swear the tiller jumped out of my hand. Soaked my whole back and I just knew the motor had fallen off!! Luckily, it was still there. I only hit one more after that and I was going slower. I offered the helm back to the captain, but he declined til we got back to the ramp.
All in all, it was a good day. No, we didn't catch many fish, but we enjoyed our time together. We don't yack a lot when we're on the water because companionable silence is a good thing. We just try to relax and enjoy all that God has put before us.
