    Default Sonar quiz #7

We discussed this screenshot in comparison to another SI image in Quiz #6...
Now let's examine this screenshot by itself...

The right SI is considerably brighter than the left SI...

List the reasons that can cause this difference in the same SI image...and explain each reason separately...

Aint nothing out there to echo back. The signal travels into the abyss.

To me, the fish returns seem the same intensity, with a difference in brightness only on the bottom. This could be that the bottom is transitioning from soft to hard bottom. Another possibility might be there is interference on the left side, possibly from the motor, and that may be partially blocking some of the TD signal.

the left side is getting deeper and the right is getting shallower

that's my thought on it because of the depth indicated from the centerline at max depth according to lines on the screen

I might and or could be wrong though

I'm going to say that the transducer is not parallel to the water side to side. I'm also going to say the td is mounted on the starboard side of the boat and has the port side of the td tilted up when it's in the water. IMO there is some interference also as seen by the white line on the port side of the water column about 4' deep. The wide black band under the boat on the port side may also be caused by the transducer install. I've never seen it on any of my Lowrance images and are not familiar with how finicky HB units are to td installation.

the reason is the right side is toward shore ,up hill side, and left side is away from shore, getting deeper,it will also do it when one side is harder bottom than other side, but that do not seem to be the case here because you would have some of that brightness on the beginning of left side as the transducer singal cross each other near middle

Transduce is turning to the right.... note elongated fish shapes. Turn allows more sonar reflection from right than left due to time on scan.

Boat is travelling southwest, the sun has began to fall in the west (5:32PM) March 9. The angle of the sun to the water is my guess.
