    Default Monroe reservoir questions!

I was wondering about taking a trip down to monroe for some crappie fishing. For me, it's about a 4 hour drive one way! I'd hate to go all the way down there and either the fish aren't biting or it's so flooded you can't get on the water or ...... you name it. So I was wondering if any of you could give me an update on conditions down there.

Today water temp 59 60. You can put in at cutrite. High water ramp. It's 6 1/2 over summer pool. Fished buck brush and trees and you can catch them. But they are dinks. Holding tight to cover. Me I live 20 mins away and don't think Ill go back for a while. Have to catch a 100 to get 1 good size fish. I've caught big ones out of there but it's rare.

Water was up 7' Saturday. Probably down around 5-6 feet up now. Water was cloudy but not real muddy. Crappie are close to moving up to spawn. Won't be long. Caught some real nice fish Saturday. If your after a big fish or two Monroe is a good place to go. If your after a lot of good eaters I would recommend looking elsewhere. Monroe is hard to pattern if you haven't fished it a lot, and can even be tough for ones who have fished it a lot. I would drive the extra hour to Patoka or seek other lakes west of Indy such as cataract or raccoon but they may still be flooded also.

the above post is current lake levels,,and it furabred and wouldn't let me post. It is off Army corps website and shows Monroe at 7.7 up above summer pool of 538' and dropped in the last 24 hrs 0.2 ft. Friend of mine sat..spent all day Sat. trolling cranks then, casting jigs for walleyes and didn't catch a thing, but he was chasing the eyes.

Monroe 7.7 ft above summer pool as of 6am today. 100 to 1 dinks to one keeper. Cataract 16.8ft but can put in at state park. Entrance fee will apply. Nice fish will be had 9-11 in with a few 12-13inches. Was there Sat and put 19 in live well. Fished in the bays 15-20ft of water about 10-14 ft down, spider rigging black/chart jigs with crappie nibbles. bite was slow but when a school was found stay with it for some nice ones. The fish were not in the backs of the bays. Staging out front to the middle of bays. tried casting no luck, they would not chase. Buddies used minnows with not much better results. Diffeintly they were schooled up. watch your graph. web site for lake levels http://155.80.93.250/wc/reports/lkreport.html also check us out at www.cataractslabmasters.com
