    Default Smelt fishing

Well, its a cousin of the salmon so I guess this is the most appropriate place to post. I have caught big fish, small fish, and everything in between but my favorite species to fish for is the rainbow smelt. What you lack in size, you make up for in numbers and a fresh smelt is the most delicious seafood there is! These pics were taken on my last ice fishing trip to one of the many smelt camps in coastal maine. The 2 fish on the left in the 4th pic are tomcods. Good times, a heated shack, lots of food and beer

Every now and then you get a little bonus tangled in your line, although have never caught one through the ice. I've heard you can catch flounder through the ice, although has never happened to me
