    Default 898 di only transducer

hey guys I don't post much just soak up all the useful info. I remember reading about using a di instead of si transducer and getting better images if I remember correctly. I just upgrade to 1198 on the rear and was wanting to move my 898 to the front and do down only if it gave better images. They will be Ethernet linked so I am assuming if I wanted to use the si I could swap the transducer that the 898 was using. I hope this is right and if so what is the transducer I would use for this??????

First and foremost...you must understand running a DI xducer on a SI unit is not condoned or recommended by HB...and it will most likely void your warranty...

The DI xducer I use on my 1197 is the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...I use this model because it already has the 200kHz 2d element needed for digital depth...and I like the added available 83kHz 60° frequency...

Kosmo has successfully used the XNT 9 DI T ...because he already had this model xducer for his 597ci DI Combo ...

Here's the more technical version...where we worked out the details ...

This is a brushpile using the stock XHS 9 HDSI 180 T to get DI from SI...

This is the same brushpile using the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...

that's what I want to see. I was so impressed with the di images when I first got the unit but not sure if it was updates that changed it or me playing with my settings but its not what it used to be. I just want di only on the front but want to split di and 2d for drifting catfish and some spider rigging. I don't see the si as necessary and would much rather have a quality di image. The 20/60 is what I need and this is just a straight hook up and go no rewire or changing pin configurations right.

*The DI xducer plugs into the same place in the back of the unit...(no wires or pins to change)...
*The "Transducer Select" menu stays the same ..."Hi Def SideScan"...
*Do not use the "Narrow" DI Width setting under the Sonar tab ... This setting will make the DI views blank ...
*Experiment with the "Medium" and "Wide" DI Width settings under the Sonar tab ...
*The DI views will look normal (except stronger echoes)...
*The SI view will only show an image on the right side ... Left side will be black ... (Because there will be no piezo connected to the "Left SI channel" in the head unit ...)
*The network setting for the 898 should be set to use the TM xducer ...

I think you should be able to go into the network settings and have the 898 read the transom xducer to get regular HDSI data if you want to see that xducer's data...(I think) ...

PS...and learn to use the "Upper Range" and "Lower Range" in manual in the DI Xpress menu...these 2 settings will remove the un-needed upper water section and lower un-needed bottom section and makes the structure look MUCH BIGGER in the DI views ...

You might think about rigging up a way to put the 898 stock HDSI xducer on the TM along with the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...

You can use HB TS3 switch and simply flip a switch to choose the HDSI or the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...to have the best of both xducer technologies on the 898 at the bow...(using only 1 xducer at a time, of course)...

Above is how I have mine rigged at the front......

    Well...sort of...

I also use the LSS 2 on my 1197 at the front also...

    But that's another story ...

Thanks for the help. I like the images you had on here of the LSS 2 on the hbird but I think that is a little above me for now. You guys can do some wild stuff. I really don't feel like I would use the si on the front that much just want to do split screen di and 2d. I had a 788 on the front and liked it just wanted a little more screen and the di and been chompin at the bit to get a 1198 and finally broke down and bought one. Now the 898 that is on the back is moving up and the 788 has to go
