I was wondering the difference between the 598ci hd si and the 698ci hd si.. also could you upgrade the 859ci hd to a si unit later if you wanted. I see there is a si unit in that model but it would make it more affordable if you could upgrade later.

HB will still offer software upgrades on Legacy units up until the unit's hardware capability of using the specific update...
HB also will accept repairs for many years after the unit is out into Legacy status...
"Discontinued"..."Out of Production" = Legacy

No, a unit is either Si sonar capable when it is built or it isn’t and cannot be upgraded to be Si sonar capable.
