If you have room to cast .... a minimum of 6ft, but I'd recommend a 7ft to 9ft rod. You can always cast sidearm if you have overhanging obstacles. You might also consider whether or not you're going to have a float of some kind on your line, and whether or not it's weighted. You also will want to make sure the rod has large guides & tip eye, if you're going to be using a slip float, since the bobber stoppers may hang in the smaller ones & the micro-guides that some rods have.
I'd recommend a fast taper rod (that bends in a J) over a rod with a parabolic bend (bends like a C) ... especially if using a jig by itself, and when casting long distances.
