Default neep help deciding which graph !

ok some im looking to upgrade the graph on the front of my boat , im looking at the hummingbird 597 hd di, with gps, question being , do I need a gps up there or not, I have a 997 si at the console, or should I just get the 596 di with no gps, I just cant decide if its worth the extra 200 bucks or not.

If the 997 is turned on at the same time as the 597, I wouldn't see a need for a second GPS. But on the main forum (electronics) I thought they were suggesting that only one unit be on at a time to avoid crosstalk between the units causing bad images. If you have to turn off the 997 to use the 597, then the money would be well-spent for the second GPS, because to mark a waypoint you would have to turn off 597, turn on 997, mark waypoint, turn off 997.... well, you get the idea

The GPS is great when you are on open water and want to stay at a depth line. Sat a waypoint and use the split screen to tell when you have drifted off.

I have a Garmin 550c up front and a Humminbird 597 ci hd in the console. I like them both but the clarity on the Garmin is better and I think it marks more fish. The Garmin does not have GPS or down scan but for the money its hard to beat.

bad thing is they only come with transom mount transducer, so when it comes in I have to send it to hummingbird and they will exchange for the trolling motor one, got to wait 10 days

I have the 597hd di in the console on my boat and love it. I'm thinking about getting an 858 or 898 for the front. I now wish the 597 could be networked. I would go with gps on the front. I dont currently have it but wish I did. There have been times when it would have REALLY come in handy to have both.
