Made a pit stop yesterday on Goat Island and the natives came out to greet us and mooch food (they really like granola). I wish Paul would've let me bring some home!

During my youth I and my siblings would see young goats and convinced my folks to get a young goat as a pet. When we got that goat a cousin and another relative each got a young goat at the same time. Why they got goats I don't know. And shortly after that we ended up with all three goats a billy and two nannies and then inevitably more goats. We had those goats for several years but as us kids reached junior high age we really weren't interested in taking care of them. My dad gave the older goats away and butchered the couple three kids remaining. Growing up on the farm I was very familiar with the butchering process with hogs and calves. It didn't bother me at all watching the process of seeing them put down with a 22 rifle and butchered. For some reason my dad didn't first put the goats down with the rifle, probably because they were small and easily handled, but hung them by their hind legs and cut their throats. Us kids didn't really prefer helping him with this process and he hadn't insisted that day that we participate but I was around close enough to see and hear from a distance and quickly found other things I needed to do and left the area.

After that us siblings were able to disassociate the butchering process and was able to enjoy eating goat burgers after that.

Just recently I saw some of these videos and it readily brought back sounds very familiar with what I heard that day and yes it was way too eerily human like at the time when I heard them back then.
