I use either mono, or electrical tape
I've got on older Cardinal 753 that has a pretty deep spool that I'd like to take up some space on before I put on new mono. In the past I've simply used mono to take up space. Any suggestions on what might be a better material? I'm looking to take up quite a bit of space, leaving enough room for perhaps 100 yards of so of line. I have a spool of #30 braided that was given to me that I don't know the history of and was thinking of winding that on. OK idea or bad idea for some reason?

The braid would probably absorb and hold moisture. I think I would use some cheap mono.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

The mono would dig into the braid. I would use cheap mono. You can use higher test line if you want so it doesn't take too much.
I use a cheap large diameter mono. I saw someone on here who cut a piece of tubing of some sort and put it on the spool to act as a "shim" of sorts.

The tubing idea was a piece of PVC cut in half and taped together around the spool. I think it's in the crank baiting sticky.
Fishing is like pizza.......Even when it's not that good, it's still pretty good!

Dacron is large diameter and would take up some room quick (often used on fly spools and walleye/muskie trolling). I usually just use mono, cheap and easy to find.
