Very nice fish there skiptomylu!! Was the jig one of the ones you tied? Other wise AWSOME FISH!
Saturday went fishing for a couple of hours trying the standing timber thing and got this crappie that was only 14 1/4", but he weighed 1.8 pounds on my digital scales. This was one pretty crappie too, lots of great color even though the colors don't really show in the picture. He had some blue iridescent thing going on, more than most I have caught. I only caught about 8 fish total and a couple of them were yellow bass. This crappie was caught on a 1/4oz jig the had a FL. Yellow body and a Silver Doctor Blue tail, probably has become my 2nd favorite color to my Christmas jig.
Please excuse how clean I am in this pic, LOL!

Yes it is a jig I tied and here is a pic of it, but I am not sure if the head of that one was painted or not. It didn't make it home with me, LOL!Originally Posted by crappiekid24
How did you work them?
I just dropped it down to about 10'-12' deep and held steady, then I would swing my rod tip away from or closer to the tree letting it swing back under the tip. If I didn't get bit withing a couple minutes I moved on to another tree. I did try all side of the tree, but spent more time on the shady side.Originally Posted by crappiekid24
I don't over work it at all, more just move it around and also move it up and back down slow enough to keep contact with it. Most hits come pretty fast after it gets to the right depth and right tree.
nice slab there! WTG!
the next generation of slabhunters
All that time I spent fishing Toledo Bend and you were holding the fish under you own trees....tsk tsk tsk!
Good one.
I just wish I could be better at fishing. Or maybe luckier!:D

I have been looking to start tying my own jigs. Could you help point me in the right direction of what I need and how to do it. I have tried tying flies but that didnt work. I have a vise.
Hey Skip I like the jig. Great fish.
