It's a broad answer, but I'm looking for the calmest water I can find when the water is around 40 degress or less. Don't be afraid to try fish in shallower water, as long as it's calm.
Id like to know what some of you use in the winter river for crappie. We do alrite on sauger in the river but just cant get a good bead on the winter crappie. Ive been threw all my summer tricks to very little effect. just seeing whats popular.......

Mostly I look for deep ledges and structure over 25'. Deep jig slooooow, I use 1.8oz jigs and slowly cruise around on top of them with a rod in each hand. Bites are light and braid helps feel every little thing.
