I was fishing down wind of a pipe smoker the other day. I smelled it before I saw him Whoops I wasn't supposed to respond

Several of the guys I fish with smoke while fishing. I quit decades ago. However an observation for you. I don't think if it matters to Crappie.
One guy I fish the most with smokes all the time. There have been locations where he caught fish and I didn't and locations when I caught fish and he didn't. We tried an experiment on several trips and made sure we both had the same exact set-up. Same bobber, slip knot, line diameter, hook, we both used big and small minnows and dropped our lines within 4" from each other, and we even switched spots every other fish. Didn't make any difference.

Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!
I do and have often wondered if it affected my catch rate. Really hard to tell, I have an uncle who used to smoke and caught fish, he no longer smokes but his catch is about the same when we have fished together as far as I can tell. This is a good question that I have thought about a long time.
I don't think it matters and it seems to help..

Yep, cigarettes for the most part....cigars for celebrating a nice fish. Feelay likes the smell of a "good" Cigar burning next to him

I think the smell of gasoline on your hands is far worse than tobacco. I also worry about sun screen lotions.
Where you go is less important than how you take the steps.
But don't forget the Roadrunners
Used to smoke cigars when fishing alone. Had to quit for health reasons, but I never noticed any affects as far as the scent bothering fish or anything. I thought it was a nice way to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.
Uhhh .... what was the point of the "question"
Do I smoke while fishing ... yes. (is that all the answer you wanted ?? )
