    Default Big Cypress Bayou 12/11

I went out on the Bayou again on Tuesday. Another slow day, this time I think the cold front with sub-freezing temps coming in the night before had something to do with it. Air temp 28-40, water temp 50, N and NE wind calm mostly but 5-6 knots, gusting to 8-9 knots. Water was stained as usual but fairly clear. I caught 13 and threw back 3 smaller ones. Had a little bit of fun when I came across a school of white bass. I was getting a 3 pounder aboard in the net when I caught a 2 pounder on another rod. I caught a few bluegills and a yellow bass. All crappie were caught on electric chicken 1/16 oz. jig I tied and blue thunder with chartreuse tail Southern Pro stinger shad about 4 feet down in water from 6 to 20 feet deep. They're still not stacked up yet. I caught 3 in one hole and 2 in another, the rest were catch one and move on to another hole. I talked to several other fishermen, mostly using minnows and according to what they all said I had a better catch than them. The most anyone told me about catching was 3 that were caught by 3 guys in one boat. They gave me their fish and I filleted the whole batch and gave them to my next door neighbor.

Although the catch wasn't great, overall I had a good time on the Bayou and got home before dark for a change.

I only fish on days of the week that end with
a "Y" ...and then, only if it's raining or not.

Looks like you had pretty good luck. A good mess for supper anyhow.

Big Cypress Bayou is in East Texas near the border between Texas and Louisiana. It feeds into Caddo lake which is on the border and the bayou is also connected to Lake O' The Pines, or so I've been told. It is east of Marshall, Jefferson, Karnack, and Uncertain, Texas. I normally launch my boat at the public launch at the Highway 43 bridge near Karnack and you can launch or rent a boat at Johnson's Ranch in Uncertain.

Great report and good job! In Northern Alabama, we are also having hit and miss days with a couple caught here and there. I don't know about others in this area, but all I get on electric chicken is yellow stripe and bream.
