Check out this article about catching crappie on crankbaits by Brad Wiegmann. Trolling Crankbaits for Slab Crappie (http://www.bradwiegmann.com/lures/hard-baits/578-trolling-crankbaits-for-slab-crappie.html)

Yes, a few companies target crappie by making slightly smaller cranks just for that purpose. Either it's to target the crappie or maybe the crappie fisherman. Saw a bunch at Bass Pro the other day.....

I first stumbled into the technique long before I knew about CDC. boat in 16fow and casting toward a weedline just off the bank. Was looking for greenfish and probably would have loaded the boat, but the Crappie had other ideas. The power drive on as slow as it would go, I worked my way along a couple of hundred yards and was busy the whole way. Been fooling with it in different fashions ever since. When trolling cranks way behind the boat, drop a jigging spoon on a snap swivel down close to the boat. Change the tiny treble for a #4 and add to the fun.
