Sounds like time well spent and good food to boot! WTG
North of W today. On the water at 7:00 and off by 9:30. But not because we caught our limits by then. My 19yo son had to head back to college so it was cut short.
After the big rainfall, I was expecting really muddy water but it wasn't too bad at all. Forgot to check the water temp but I'm sure it's cooled off some.
If the rain had any effect, it was on scattering the fish. We used the same tactics that had worked in the past...jigs in 6-8fow near timber. The fishing was even slower than the last Smithville tournament. We only ended up with a couple but they were both good size. Still, no sense in cleaning just two fish so we released them.
Then went home and cooked a slab of ribs on the grill and some chicken stuffed peppers wrapped in bacon.
Huzzah!

Sounds like it is still pretty tough. Glad you got out and good luck to your kid!
hey you tried, and sometimes it works sometimes not,,, next time you'll get em....
Well I'm sorry it wasn't better for you, but glad it wasn't just me who got his head handed to him.
I only caught one green fish on Sunday, Cam caught about an 8.5 inch crappie and Deanna caught a 10 inch crappie, a 12 inch catfish and another dink crappie in about 4 to 5 hours on Smithville.

The fishin wasn’t great but at least no one went Hungry!
Glad you got the chance to enjoy the day on the water with your son before he went off to college . That's what it's all about !
Sometimes the trip is more important than the catch.
