I use them up & down, I don't think it really matters.
Most people will probably say down.
For the folk that use curly tails, do you turn the tail up or down?

I'v always hooked them with the tail up. I thought I had read somewhere that was the correct way.
Next time using them I will do some expermentation to see if any differences can be observed in the catch rate. I don't really think there will be. If there is maybe I'll be getting more fish in the boat.

to really discern whether or not there's a difference in "action" or "hit rate", when the tail is up or down. But, I think the only real difference would be the tendency for the tail to get caught in/by the hook, if facing up. This would most likely occur when the jig "landed" in the water, upon being cast, since the curl of the tail would be towards the bend of the hook. This would only be a potential problem, if the tail was long enough to reach back to the hook bend/point. For this reason alone, I was taught to put a curly tail on - tail pointing down. But, look at various mfg's ads for curly tails, already rigged on a jighead, and you'll see them pointing in both directions. ....... cp
Small twisters down, bigger ones up.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.
It will make a difference in the action of the jig wither turned up or down. It may be suttle but is still a difference to the fish. As CP said turned up they have a tendency to get hooked on the hook a lot when casting. Turned down they give a little more action to the jig. Turned up the line and jig itself takes away from the action of the tail, but turned down it catches all the force of the drag in the water and has better action. Suttle action turn the tail up more action turn the tail down. When using a minnow turn the tail down. Just my opinion.
