    Default Minnow bucket

I would appreciate some input on minnow buckets. What kind works best for you and where did you find it? I live in IL and fish old strip mines. I have to travel 30-60 minutes to get to some of these places.

I have a couple of the Cool Bubbles buckets from Bass Pro. They run on 2-d batteries (that will last a 2 to 3 days running non stop). On hot days a zip lock baggie with a few ice cubes in it, it will keep them alive for days...izzy

Hi Mike and welcome to Crappie.com. I use the styrofoam champagne buckets with the metal cage around them. I put a short bungie cord over the top to keep the lid on while traveling and in winds. Been using them for years. I get mine from a local mom and pop tackle store.

I just used my new Frabill Kool Keeper with a Bubble Box battery activated deaerator last night for the first time. Styro on the inside and hard plastic on the outside, which is nice. I wonder how much I have spent over the years on the $2.95 buckets that I always ended up breaking or losing. I've got about 14-15 bucks in this combo and should have it for a long time. The bubble box worked great, but is a little loud. I ran it for about 10 minutes every half hour or so and didn't lose a minnow. Matter of fact, I just went and checked and they are all still swimmin. Don't know if this combo is the best out there, but I am pretty happy.

Mike. Last week I received my Dry Hands Minnow Bucket. I bought three dozen minnows and tested things out. The bucket is hard plastic with a styrofoam outer shell. It comes with an aerator and a false bottom that raises when you pull up the rod to dispense the minnow. I would not put more than three dozen minnows in the bucket as it would be too cramped. The bucket worked worked fine. At first I thought it might be another item to catch fishermen, but I really like the product, and NO I am not a salesman. If you want to take a look at one,go to crappiestuff.com and go to crappie innovations. Good luck and tight lines

I also found the noise of the bubbler very disconcerting and disruptive towards the zen like state I am attempting to acheive while on the water.

What I have done is to take the bubbler off the bucket and place in inside my cooler with the lid back on so as to not compress the bubbler hose. My thoughts were that this would also help by pumping the cooler air into the water plus considerably reduce the noise generated by the bubbler. Anyhow it really reduced the noise level.

Maybe others on the board could reccomend bubblers that don't generate that obnoxious noise and isn't too pricey.

That is one of the main reasons I use frozen liter bottles of water. Put one in 2 or 3 times a day and never a problem. I have Tinitus along with everything else and those bubblers noise drive me up the wall er bulkhead.
