I 've been talking with Slab about starting up a mentoring youth forum. It would be to post about taking kids fishing and such. I post stories with photos about teaching kids about fishing on Arkansas forum often.. The kids are the future of our sport. I am posting a poll to see if there is enough interest. Maybe this would encourage others to mentor our youth and post.

Everyone should reach one and teach one. That......is why Crappie.com was started. I started a thread which is a stickie now on the main forum "Knots and rig drawings for beginners." I was hoping people would contribute ideas and drawings.that could be used to teach youth.

The original front page of Crappie.com was headlined with the phrase "Teach a kid to fish".
I'm all for it. I just want to make sure a separate forum for this will be used enough to justify its creation. And it's really not a big deal to create one, I would just hate to see it sit idle.
I remember a thread that was in the archives "Who mentored you?" I'll bet that would be great motivation for youth.

I know most of us are always eager to help kids get into the sport, and I am certainly not looking to discourage that in any way. But, I think most kids would rather jump in and dig around, post their own questions, and learn with the 'big boys'. Kids are going to be 10x better at getting around this forum than most adults. And isn't that why you work so hard to keep the site 'family friendly'?
Just trying to think of it from a kid's point of view. I know my nephews would probably avoid anything marked 'for kids' because at 11 and 13 they're already adults in their own minds.
