We call 'em "Red Horse Minnows."
Went to a creek in Southern ILLinois with my son and brother today. We were able to catch about 3 dozen minnows with a cast net. Was curious if anybody could identify the two different species we caught. The first two pics show a minnow that is colored up like a neon. Seems very odd to me but this brightly colored fish has been in this paticular creek for several years. The last pic shows a minnow that likes to jump out of the bucket, a very hardy fish.

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Looks like they would work good for bait with them red tails and glossy skin!
Those are redhorse minnows. Great bait
The #1 minnow looks like a top water minnow that we used to have here in middle TN. They are about extinct here.... habitat and such.... One is called the Barren Fork Top Water Minnow. Smallmouth love them and will chase them down. #2 looks like a regular stone roller minnow we have in small streams. #1 and #2 minnow usually live pretty close together....You have some really clean water if you have redhorse suckers.
That first minnow there looks like a Redfin shiner, but its hard to tell without its fins opened up. The second is for sure a redhorse sucker, great bait and a very hardy species.
