I dont longline with cranks but I think that technique's best during the summer months once the water nears 80* (from what I've learned here on CDC).
1/8, 1/16, some times I double up or mix it up, .7 up to 1.2mph, I do it year round, and you'll have to alter your presentation using different size lure, speed, depth, so and so on. It's still a "what do the little critters prefer today" deal.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
Mainly 1/16, but if they are deep , 1/8, .6 to .9 mph , I caught fish year a round for five years straight, I got burnt out on it, been jigging brush and shooting docks the last 3 years with one rod. catching more fish now than ever before!
1/16 and 3/32 either round or Tri-head Litewirehooks. Anywhere from .9 to 1.2 mph. This is when the fish are in 12-14 feet of water like they are now in Lake Talquin Florida.

Every day you do not fish will be one day less you have to fish
Especially in the spring and fall I like a 1/32 Oz. Roadrunner, but will also use a regular jig and will use a 1/16 sometimes.
How is longlining year round with Black crappie? To my experience it is only a spring deal with black crappie as they move to brush. Don't have white crappie here to compare. I would think it would work good for them year round as they suspend more.CF
