Great photos and report. Green with envy for you and your day off.

I had to try Mattawoman just to see if any fish were there. The sign at the gate says open at 8:00AM but when I got there at 7:25 it was open. It made it quite apparent that the 8:00 is for the taxpaying general public but your allowed in early if you have a tournament. Argh!
On the water at 7:45 and fishin’ at 8:00. I decided that if the crappie were ‘ON’, I would keep 10 to eat and move on and try some lures for the snakeheads.
I had to take my morning dosage, so I had to have food.
Breakfast from Wa-Wa.
It took an hour, 14 minners and 13 fish to cull ten crappie over 11”.
So at 9:00 with the tide moving out, I upped anchors and fished the shallow shoreline wood. I caught 6 bass but no snakeheads.
I threw Rattle Trap, Red Eye Shad, Chatterbait, a whacky rigged worm and a plastic crawfish type bait rigged Texas style with a small tungsten weight.
(Reaction Innovations Sweet Beavertail)
The plastic worked when flipped into 1’ to 2’ of water around logs. I missed a nice fish when I stuck him and he rushed the boat. Left hand malfunction.
One was a dink, three 15”ers and two a tad bigger.
So with the clock approachin’ 10:00, I called it a day and was on the trailer by 10:15AM.
Didn’t see another boat anywhere near me the whole time.
Oh and for you green fish fans, here is a couple pics.
