    Default Winter Pool and Spawn

Will the lakes being at winter pool and warm water temps mess with spawn? I was on Grayson lake today and water temp was 58degrees. They are still at winter pool, 8+ feet below summer pool, and noticed most spawn spots arent even under water...

If they start filling during spawn, how bad will that mess things up?

It would be better than pulling the lake down off the spawn as I have seen at Barren more than once. The COE doesn't care one bit about the fish.

The lakes were built under the Flood Act of 1938. The lakes were designed to control flooding down stream, due to the heavy rains in the spring the lakes have to allow the the water level to stay near winter pool so they can hold more water when the rains do come. We saw a great example of this last spring with the floods in Kentucky, if it was not for the lakes already being near winter pool the flooding would have been much worse. The people in charge of when the water is held or released are in Louisville behind a computer montouring the lake levels. Not saying that the Corp does not care about the fish, but just stating that the fishing and recreation uses are just perks of having these lakes around the nation.

THe rising water will only helpt the spawn. The last two years of high spring water levels have helped the fry survive more as there is more cover for them to hide in and grow. Things can only get better with the early warm water and spawn as the water rises.
