Has this warm winter effected the spawning?

I kno here in western kentucky we have not had a real winter.the coldest it has gotten was like 20 degrees for one night,would this have any effect on the crappie spawns?

IMHO ... yes, it probably would. Water temps above 60deg & stable is spawning time. Water temps above 50deg should put them on the move towards their preferred spawning areas. Water level fluctuations, cold snaps, major storms, and the like will delay them awhile. But they'll keep trying until the water gets too hot for any chance of survival of the fry, and if the females haven't dropped by then ... they'll just consume the eggs (protein) back into their bodies, for their own survival.

Water temp was 47 where I was fishing Saturday. Caught female blacks behind woody current breaks on black and chartruese slider grubs on black slider heads.

I don't think the spawn is too far off. I caught several blacks right on the bank in southeast MO friday, then caught some more blacks 2 ft under a cork on docks in 6-8 FOW and stake beds in 4 FOW at KY Lake Saturday. Seems like an early spawn to me.

Things are going to change after this week, check out how warm it will be this week.


This week and next will be a great time too be on the water, imo

It will be in the low 80's a few days this week on KY Lake.

I agree with Whiskers on this,definitely a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.The blacks I have been catching looks like the spawn is coming rather quick
