Default Crappie Umbrella Rig w/ Pics

After receiving 2 crappie umbrella rigs (mini-Alabama rigs) in the mail this week I couldn't wait to try them out today.

    One Word...UNBELIEVABLE!

Ended up with 1 Triple hook-up and 4 doubles along with probably 30 singles. Only had 24 keepers though. I had a bucket of minnows and didn't even use them the rig was so much fun. Oh yea, I was fishing out of a canoe too! You should have seen some of the looks I got throwing this thing and then you should have seen their jaw hit the floor when I reeled it in. I was being Ultra Cautious not to get hung. I tried to fish it 3 ft. away from any branches and it seemed like the fish would leave their cover to come out and bite it.

    The Triple-All Keepers

Caught this big boy 3 weeks ago on a minnow.
My personal biggest 2lbs. 10 oz.

I love it when they're so fat it looks like they have SHOULDERS!

I've been thinking about this very thing but didn't think anybody was making them. Where did you get em and what rod are you using to throw it? I NEED ONE BAD!! Thanks for posting your results.

Crappieseeker, a guy in Decatur made some for me. We tried longlining with them and to keep the weight down, we just used jig hooks without the head.

If you're casting, you could use your favorite jig.

I found these rigs at thumpbaits.com $20 for 2 shipped The Jigs in the pic are Mr. Crappie "Joker's"
    I was using a 6'6 md-hvy rod with 20lb. Mono.
    Hope this helps!

Clekler, thanks for the info about the umbrella rig. I have been very curious about how that design could work for crappie.
