Default Looking for a quality dog breeder in the MO area or close to it.

    Hey everyone,
I am in search of a fishing buddy, a dog to be specific. I am looking for some good breeders out there. I am in Lebanon, MO but I am looking state wide and maybe even into Northern Arkansas or anywhere as long as the dogs are in good health and the breeder is respectable. No puppy farm breeders!!!
I am looking for a small to medium dog, intelligent and with a good temperament. I am looking at Boston Terriers, Jack Russell’s, Border Collie, or another terrier breed. Would consider a larger dog but prefer small to medium. Thanks for the help guys.

    Hi Skeeter,

Terriers are intelligent and have good temperaments, but they are rarely good water dogs. In my experience many of them will avoid water at all costs. Of course, if they see a squirrel they'll jump out of the boat, run through fire and jump off a cliff to get at it. Border collies aren't afraid of water like terriers are, and they are very trainable dogs. Just make sure you keep them busy -- nothing worse than a bored border collie.

Thanks for avoiding puppy mill breeders, especially since MO is the Mecca of puppy mills. Lots of great dogs at Pet Search Results: Adoptable Dog Pets in Lebanon, MO: Petfinder

I used to own an Australian Shepherd. Very intelligent dog with a wonderful disposition. They are medium sized dogs, around 40 lbs.

Yea my wife likes the Aussie sheps, but I am not fond of the long hair, hard to keep clean and from stinking if they spend much time outside. This is going to be an inside dog, pampered to all ends. Going to ride with me to town, fishing, hunting, anything. Going to be my sidekick so to speak. He is not required to hunt, nor is he required to get in the water, he or she for that matter is just required to be able to learn, obey, and enjoy time with me. Which can be hard at times, at least that's what the wife says.

Thanks for the info guys, keep it a coming. Just throw out some ideas if I have not thought of anything or breed either.

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it. Irish Blessing.
