I loose fewer fish with sickle hooks. I recently had two great outings where I caught 90 then 101 crappie and only had 1 get off next to the boat. Hard to beat that.
Was just wondering how many of you use sickles or wire hooks. I have been using wire hooks since i can remember and really havent been convinced too switch to sickles.

I won't use a hook that isn't a Sickle.

The only "regular" hook I've found that will be as sharp as a sickle hook (and stay sharp) is Owner hooks and they are costly and brittle. Hookups are great with the sickles, but for me it's the way they come out of the package super sharp and stay that way.
the maker of the sickle hooks (matzuo} are now making a aberdeen (regular) hook thats just as sharp as the sickle !!!we tye our jigs with both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I prefer the hookups with the sickles. I find more of my fish are hooked in the meaty part of the roof of the mouth. Some in the thinner membrane around the mouth, but mostly in the roof. That translates into fish staying buttoned up and coming to dinner. The only thing that I don't like about a sickle is they don't keep a minnow as well as an Aberdeen when you tip a jig. I have to try some of the matzuo aberdeens for that, but I don't use many minnows so it's no biggie for me.

Thanks guys. For the most part i use a 1/32 with a 6 or 8 hook. It look the hooks seem a bit bigger soo what size you think would fit me?

The only reason I switch back and forth is because during these colder months the stripers and wipers are pretty active and the wire hooks wont hold them when putting a good bit of pressure on the lines. Other than that is's always wire hooks for me.Thumbs Up
