Good job and thanks for the report!I am going to either Melvern or Truman on Wed.
Good day guys, great day to get out on the water.
One thing though, be careful what you post. Culling is illegal in KS and I know a couple of CO's that roam around here looking for game violations. Good luck out there and keep slapping them around.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D

Nice post....thank you....and good info Nick
I can only find two locations in the 2012 Kansas Fishing Regulations mentioning culling.
First reference is on page #7 under definitions "Culling: Replacing one live fish held by an angler for another live fish of the same species. " which says nothing about the legality of culling.
Second reference I can find is on page #13 under "LOCATIONS, LENGTH AND CREEL LIMITS Once a daily creel limit of any particular species has been possessed, any other fish of that species that is caught must be released immediately, unharmed, into the water. It may not replace another fish already in the creel, except for participants in a weigh-in black bass tournament who posses a tournament black bass pass."
Just why would they start their statement out about the illegality of culling saying "Once a daily creel limit.....has been possessed"!
To my demented way of thinking about this is that the replacement of one fish for another fish isn't illegal if and until the daily creel limit has been reached. Meaning that having 18 ten inch crappie in the livewell and replacing a ten inch fish with a 12 inch fish wouldn't be illegal.
I would like to see from where in the regulations that you are able to see and assert so definitively that "CULLING IS ILLEGAL IN KANSAS". Do they purposely write this so vaguely so as to confuse the dimmer bulbs like me? If they just said it is illegal to replace one fish for another .... then that sounds much more definitive that adding the part about 'once a daily creel limit is reached.
Or, for much better clarity, they could of added to the end of the definition of culling by saying which is illegal but nooo they just want to add more to my already overburdened constant state of confusion. Oh well it's also not a problem for us folks like me and huntcapn who never catch a limit anyhow.

Lee and I have had a number of discussions about "culling" with me claiming it was legal ( per the regs. Lee just listed ) but to be sure I asked a wildlife officer awhile back and he confirmed it is legal as long as you haven't put that last fish in the livewell and that you are exchanging a live fish for another live fish. Hope things haven't changed for this year, but like Lee said it's a rare event for me or my sucky fishing partners to be able to cull anything...unless it's BS!
FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS & FISHING...... hopefully in that order but honestly, not always!
