u beat me 2 the question
Do any of you guys use them? I am wanting to start my spider rigging set up but cant afford new rods and reels right now. eventually I would like to get the reels with the line counter built in, but thought maybe this would be a cheaper alternative for now.
thanks for any feedback

When spider rigging I use 13' poles so I usually know about how deep I'm fishing buy just taking up or letting out a few more feet of line than the length of the pole. If I wanna fish deep then I bump the bottom with a heavy weight and count the rounds up on the reel. (My reels are about a foot per complete turn.)
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
I have a couple. On heavier line, say 10# or more they work fine. Couldn't get them to work with 4#.

When spider riggin all you need is something to hold the line. Line counters work for pullin cranks and maybe longlin'n. I use the line counter reels up here in the summer for vertical fishin because the fish are always at 28'. Tough to get exact that deep without them.

You don't need a line counter reel to spider rig with. Put some kind of mark on yer rods for the depth. A GOOD reel like those cheap Slab Seekers would be nice.

You can do like Roger Gant and put a mark about 2 feet in front of yer reel, and pull the line out however many pulls to reach yer depth, then mark yer line.
