My dad says they dont and another old man says they do. I havent done much research on my own but do crappie spawn in the fall. My logic tells me no because fisherman would be talking about the fall spawn left and right. But the old man and the evidence tells another story. So what say you crappie.com Do they sqawn in the fall? If you dont ask you dont know I guess. Thanks for being patient with me and all of my questions you guys have helped me alot.

I don't understand, are you saying because the eggs are present, they spawn, tell them old timers this old timer says they do not, they grow eggs all year to spawn, soon as they spawn they start eating so they can grow eggs again, never ending cycly, we till they get on my hook, then it's fry time.....

Beagle is exactly right. Females spawn and then start sacking up shortly after that.

False spawn. Those sacks will fill out come spring.

Yeah, they ovulate for a year....but they only spawn in the spring. They hold the eggs until they are ready.

I fish 12 mos. a year. The fished I cleaned in late Sept. started showing signs of eggs and now they are obvious in the females and you can now see the sperm sacs in the larger males too. These eggs mature over the winter and the fish will begin their spawning in late Feb/early March (usually) and copntinue into late April/early May. Not all fish spawn at the same time so you'll be able to catch spawning fish for an easy 3/4 months in the spring into early summer. I do not believe any crappie spawn in the fall and I never have.

I agree they don't spawn in the fall , and will start having egg build up over the winter. What may confuss some that in the fall they make a fake run at shore and can be caught very shallow but its not a spawn!

X4 Beagle. Some crappie keep eggs in them all year. Even during the spawn, they don't drop all of their eggs at once and very seldom drop all of them completely.
