We will be passing through and may have time to stop and visit. What is the best area to put in and what seems to attract the crappie on Smithville?

    When are you stopping through?

    Here's the coord's for the W HWY Ramp. 39°26'53.41"N 94°32'27.87"W

In winter I use this ramp and fish Shady Lake Cove. 39°26'15.87"N 94°31'54.52"W

It's a mile from the ramp, and typically fills with bait balls and crappie all winter long. Just put the trolling motor on 1 and a pole in each hand and troll around. Good fun in the winter.Thumbs Up

Shady Lake Cove is a great call like mduncan said. I've been having great luch with a "Perch Eye" jig tipped with a crappie minnow and a small splitshot 12"-18" above it working brush piles.

Probably in the next 2 weeks. It depends on when we get the boat finished. Once it is tested, we hit the road with it. Depending on how pushed we are for time, we usually like to check out new places, faces and fishing spots.
