    Default Dang northern pikes!

So I'm trolling along, minding my own business when the second northern pike of the day slams on a little 1" microtube. Geez, the perch were passing up the microtube because it was too small!

Maybe I need to stop tipping it with a 1" sliver of bluegill?

Did the northern's hit my 8lb Light rigs? No, of course they chose the 4lb ultralight. The northern in the photo was the dink at only about 20". His big brother from 10 minutes earlier was about 25". Lake rules are release all game fish -LMBass and Northern Pike - but no limits on panfish.

At least they both had the decency to hook in the lip, so I didn't have to get too close to the teeth to retrieve my jig.

I think they're the weirdest looking fish. Like a cross between a fish and an eel, but the teeth of a great white.

ga...they were fun on the ultralight, but not for as long as I thought they'd be. Both gave up the fight in 20-25 seconds. After making sure I had the hook set I let them run off maybe 25 feet before tightening the drag. Halfway to the boat they just quit fighting. Both times I loosened the drag when they got near the boat, but they didn't run again. The final reeling up and netting was like reeling in an old sneaker.

Beautiful fish! I'm sure that was a blast on the ultra-light gear. Thumbs Up

    Default Northerns

When we were doing some river fsihing this last weekend, we couldn't keep the pike off our lines, I managed to get one in with 4lb line and a pink and white tube jig as well, he bit thru my line just as I got him over dry ground Before I could step on him he went flip flip and back into the river he went. My friend I was with there the other night had one chase a small bullhead she had hooked, the Pike actaully went right up on the rocks and she was quick enough to step on him. That one went into the oven....
