from shore or boat?
I aint here to tell you anything. You want to know what Im doing....pm me and meet me on the lake.
slip bobber with minnows work from shore or boat. They allow you to adjust the depth.
set up bobber stop bead slip float #4 or #2 hook place a small split shot about 10 inches above the hook.

The Thill slip bobbers are good ones.....the ones for crappie are sized according to jig weight.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

my favorite is to use a very small foam float thats pegged with a tooth pic and fish a 32nd head with a jig under it...

Depends on what depth you're needing to reach. Deeper than 3' then I go slip bobber, under 3' I just clip or peg a bobber where I want it.
I use a slip bobber with a bullet weight. I did searches on-line and on youtube to find different ways to set up. I have always prefered bobber fishing so i can easily adjust depth. So I use a stopper, bead, slip bobber, bullet weight, quick change clip and a foot long leader with a gold 2 or 4 hook. I hook the minnow in the eyes or jaw if I troll or along the dorsal fin if i am anchored. I normally run around the lake till the fish finder bleeps and i find them bad boys! I then set my bait to their depth!
I use weighted bobbers if I am castig a jig in shallow water (8 feet and less). I use a 1/8 ounce jig about three to four feet under the bobber. Cast out and use a slow retrieve to keep the bait at the depth you want. I have caught a lot of fish using this method.
To make life enjoyable, you must have crappie days.
