A Fishing Report Finally!

Seems to be a dead board here lately at least with fishing reports so I thought I would post my latest. We spent the weekend at Melvern and did pretty good. As far as "catching" we did great; "keeping" however, has slowed down a bit. We Still came home with approx 40 nice keepers this weekend (and by nice keepers I mean 12-14 inchers with one going 15 inches). We caught probably 200 crappie this weekend, most were just under 10 inches to 8 inches. We also caught a whole lot of little tiny guys that would have trouble breaking the 5 inch mark. The little ones looked more at home in the minnow bucket than they did on my line! lol!!

We fished brush all weekend. The best seemed to be in about 19-22 feet of water. We fished right on top of the piles at about 15 feet most of the time. This morning they were shallower and we caught the most at about 10-12 feet of water over the brush. Every single fish was caught on minnows with just a red hook and split shot above it. Tried jigs several times and didnt catch squat compared to minnows.

Funny story, we chummed for channel cat last weekend and could not buy a channel cat. This weekend all the channel cat poles and bait stayed home and we caught several channel cat. Doh I caught one today while fishing for walleye that would probably go 8 lbs on an orange marabou jig with a night crawler on it. We did catch a couple small walleye but nothing big enough to put in the live well.


Taking next weekend off to let the simpletons have their fun. This should be the summer nimrods last weekend before they have to winterize their high dollar boats so Ill sit at home and drink beer this coming weekend and head out the following weekend! lol!! Rofl

They make it sound on the news like Melvern is a toxic waste lake w/all the "highly toxic" alge bloom . They said " five dogs have died from drinking the water" they showed pictures of what it looks like & I was driving thru the same stuff yesterday up @ old town by Ozawkie @ Perry and no one has mentioned anything about that lately. Did you see any of that while you were there Keith???
