    Default Saturday at Smithville

When the wind is from the north, they bite like a horse is what my Grandma used to say. Well yes and no. After the sun finally came out the fishing picked up, just werent too many horses. Danny and I caught around 35 fish and only 5 were keepers. All were 11" to 12" males still black from the spawn. The dinks were thumping though and we left around noon. Caught them in 8' to 18' about 8' to 10' down. Anything with chartuse in it. Mainly stumps. Be glad when things settle down and warm up so the summer pattern will start up in full force.

Perryfisher and I went out today and fought the wind . It was cloudy and cold ! We ended up with around 24 keepers between 9 1/2"-12" . We caught them on the deeper trees . We had to cover allot of water . I don't think we caught more than 3 keepers on any tree .

Seems about all the lakes are in that early summer funk waiting for the fish to start feeding back up. With the small fish thumping it the big ones should start whacking real soon. Glad team DoubleD got out and had a good time. Can't wait to get back up there and dip some hedge trees.
