Thats why they make 12ft. jig poles.
Once I was in a panfish tournament and found a pattern of lilly pad fish crowded and active under the pads. It was fall, post cold front and the wind was 15+ mph. At the time, the longest spinning rod I owned was 6'6" and it was necesarry to use the trolling motor to vertical jig 270 degrees around the front of the boat.
Since I've owned a 9' fly rod for years and never used it, I figure why not use it to vertical jig more locations within the enlarged circle? The amount of line needed would be minimal and light braid would be fine for instant hookups and sensitivity.
Thats why they make 12ft. jig poles.
