Garmin has some good units that are user friendly. You can get a decent unit at around $100.

What advice does any one have on purchasing a hand held GPS. Will mainly (mostly) use for fishing.
Is there a GPS for dummies????????

Lowrance has a unit called the ifinder h2o that is water proof and floats with the appropriate batteries. I have one and a friend of mine has one. Good unit. Very easy to use. I want to say they cost around 150.00

Poked around the forums here and gathered quite a bit of excellent info.

Might set a budget, then decide what features you need. I'm sorta leaning towards the Garmin GPSMAP 76 myself, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Plenty of helpful folks and lotsa good info here!

I have a Garmin Etrex legend C (color screen) and really like it. Very easy to setup and use. If you can use windows on a computer you can do anything on this GPS. It works basically the same way, using icons for all the options.
Here's another vote for the Garmin Legend . Good unit!! I think you will be pleased with it. Usually costs about $160-170 at Walmart. The color unit costs more, so decide if you want color or the b & w.
I have a Garmin GPS 72 that I too only use for fishing. It is not in color but the screen is larger than most good for these old eyes. I only use the pointer page to get me back to my sports. Maybe later as I get more into it I will use the other functions. A up-grade is the GPS 76, a mapping unit I believe.

I have a Garmin 72, been using it for 2 years. I like it and will buy another Garmin when I upgrade. Never used any other so can't evaluate differences, but I use Lowrance electronics everywhere else.
