    Default bad spawn

Been catching a lot of females with eggs- I think the spawn was a bust.
What does it mean when you catch a male that isn't colored up in semi shallow water say 6-7 feet- and then he colors up in the livewell?
Then later catch one in 12 feet of water that is as black as coal!

I also have a question about spawning crappie. I fished a 5 acre pond yesterday and caught about 15 keeper (+10") black crappie. I am certain a small pond would have been done spawning by mid April. Several crappie had eggs in them (not soupy). Any thoughts?

this might be a good question for Craig the Biologist. I have heard before that if Crappie don't spawn after a certain point that they will just absorb their eggs and not spawn that year...........
