for catfish only
I bank fished earlier this week with 1-1/2" to 2-1/2" goldfish. Didn't want to drive 30 miles out of the way to buy regular minnows. Caught 2 keeper crappie, a huge green sunfish, some small largemouth, 4 or 5 bluegill, a couple of shellcracker, a yellow bass, and a channel cat abt 18" fishing them under a float. The water was stained, maybe 1' visibility.
Has anyone else tried goldfish?
for catfish only
wow! The guy I buy my bait from sells them but I have never tried for crappie fishing. Most people that use them are fishing for catfish. Sounds like the fish likes em.

They are a good catfish bait, illegal in a lot of places!
Try putting red and yellow food coloring in the minnow's water and then put the bucket in the fridge for a day or two. You'll have gold fish.
The store bought goldfish are illegal in Minnesota.
illegal here also i think

These are feeder goldfish from the pet shop. I thought maybe they would be effective because they are bright orange and the water was stained so the fish could have seen them better. Actually they are cheaper than regular tuffie minnows in some bait shops.
I can't find the larger goldfish for catfishing. They are legal in Tennessee. Just about anything is legal for baitfish--even game fish if they are legal size and caught by rod and reel.
its the same here in wv....as long as it was caught on rod and reel...But you have to use it in the same body of water....cant take it from 1 lake to another
The baitshops here have started selling an orange minnow that we call Rosie's. I think they're just an orange colored fathead minnow. They do seem to outperform our regular shiner minnows in murky waters.
Illegal here in Florida also. Buddie got a $250.00 fine last year when FWC noticed him fishing with them..... on his own dock.
