Default The S in Smithville must be For SHORTS!!!

Last night took the wife and kids. We could catch a short almost every time the jig hit the water. Makes for a good time for the family but end up empty handed. I’ve never seen so many short fish and I mean small. Some were only about 6 or 7 inches. You would think after I caught about 20 in a row at least one would be 9, but NOPE! Fished up the Branch arm in Owl creek and just about every tree by the bank has a DINK.

Headed to the main lake to pursue the elusive Keeper (I heard there were some in the lake) and found a few. They were not on the bank, but in about 6 to 8 FOW.

And for the good news, I got out fished by the Wife and Daughter. They caught all the keepers and the wife even caught the big fish as you can see. I’ll never hear the end of it from either one of them.

All in all a GREAT family outing and good time had by all of us.

Off Friday so I’ll hit it again and looking for tips. Good luck Guys!

Good job Bill. I was out last night and ended up with only 4 keepers.

Jack, just for the comment, I'm going to put a wheel boot on your boat trailer next time I see you out at Smithville. :D

I went with my 5 yr old girl yesterday. Caught lots of 8-8 3/4, she had a blast. Ended up with 3 keepers,a 9, a 10, and one 14 3/4. All keepers were on minners about 16" deep in 4-6 fow. The two bigger fish were whites full of eggs. It was my first trip to smithville but we are going back soon.
