and headed to the shop for a tuneup and hopefully minor repair... i asked a while back about not engaging into forward gear all the time when reverse works perfect and got some helpful tips. Thanks! but i am afraid this is past my spark plug / oil change knowledge...

shifter linkage was what was suggested for this symptom. i'll let everyone know what the mechanics at Cabellas say when it's done. Thanks again to everyone for the friendly advise!
